ABOUT THE POSITON
The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Part-time faculty positions are as needed positions and do not accrue rights to tenure. Part-time faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Duties

TEACHING

  • Ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on campus and on-line courses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Instructional duties and assignments may consist of one or more of the following:

  • Provide instruction for assigned courses in computer applications and concepts, including Microsoft Office. This includes preparation for in-class or online/distance education activities, evaluation of 'students' work, consultation with students outside of class and/or online, maintenance of currency in the subjects taught.
  • Maintain accurate class and other records required by the college.
  • Submit, when due, attendance rosters and grade reports.
  • Follow course outlines as filed in the instruction offices.
  • Maintain office hours each week, at .5 hours per week per section.
  • Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the District and college.
  • Provide each student with a written course syllabus at the beginning of the course, as per instructions in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Refer students to appropriate college sources for information on counseling and other student services.
  • Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the 'members' area of expertise.
  • Work cooperatively within the college community.
  • Foster an environment that protects academic freedom within the college community.
  • Foster a positive working environment that is free from harassment, prejudice and bias.
  • Demonstrate respect for the dignity of each individual.


Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications 1. A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in the discipline; OR,2. An Associate's degree and six years of experience in the discipline; OR,3. Hold a valid credential to teach in the discipline; OR,4. Meet equivalent qualifications established by the District AND appropriate certificate to practice or licensure or its equivalent, if available; OR the equivalentAND 5. Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds. Desirable Qualifications
  1. Recent community college or lower division teaching experience.
  2. Expertise in the field of course(s) to be taught.
  3. Proficiency in Online Instruction.
