The Southern Methodist University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering invites applications for one full-time tenure track Assistant Professor. The technical areas of primary interest for this position are in biomedical sensors and systems, machine learning, signal processing, neuromorphic computing, and computer engineering for health-related applications. Exceptional candidates in the aforementioned areas will be prioritized, although exceptional candidates from closely-related areas of interest within Electrical and Computer Engineering will be considered. This position is part of a cluster hire in Data Science and is one of twelve positions allocated to the cluster around three areas of focus: Data Core, Health Analytics, and Technology and Education. The multi-faculty hire represents an ambitious program to develop large-scale collaborative research projects responding to some of humankind's most daunting challenges. This position is associated with the Health Analytics group that includes positions in three other Departments at SMU: Biological Sciences, Psychology, and Applied Physiology and Sports Management. The candidate is expected to collaborate with other faculty in the Health Analytics and Data Core groups with the goal of acquiring and/or employing data that can help us further identify, understand, and control the burden of health-related challenges.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates must have a PhD degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering or a related field, and are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses as well as to develop an innovative, externally-funded research program. Successful candidates will be expected to supervise Masters and Doctoral students and participate in interdisciplinary efforts within the School. Exceptional candidates with a proven track record will also be considered at the tenured Associate Professor level.

Qualified candidates for this position (i) must have a doctoral degree in electrical or computer engineering or a related field; and (ii) are expected to demonstrate the ability to support existing core courses of our electrical and computer engineering degrees; and (iii) must have expertise to develop new courses in areas relevant to our programs at the undergraduate and masters levels. The target appointment date is Fall semester, 2023.
